Clean Conscience is a home-based business located approximately 45 minute drive from Hobart.  Set on approximately 3 acres we are situated high on the hills overlooking the beautiful seaside town of Dodges Ferry.

With beautiful views and surrounded by nature there is no lack of inspiration for the creation of our eco friendly cleaning products.

Our decision to move out of the city occurred only recently. The pressure of rising costs for the rent of commercial properties, traffic and the general hustle and bustle of the city were all catalysts for the move.

The decision was certainly a good one!! We are now surrounded by peaceful nature, wildlife, birds and beautiful beaches. We have started our own vegie garden and our free range chooks are always a joy to watch. It is amazing how much more can be achieved when you are in a peaceful state of mind!!!

The nearest beach is only 5 minutes away and this is where I usually start my day along with my faithful mate Archie (furry child).

Dodges Ferry has everything we need. With a population of around 3000 there is a wonderful feeling of community here. Dodges (as the locals call it) is an eclectic mix of blue collar workers, surfers, fisherman, artists and professional commuters.             
Every day we look around us and think how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place! As they saying goes, the simple things in life are often the best!!!

Clean Conscience would like to announce that we have recently secured a stall at Hobart’s famous Salamanca Market on Saturdays.

Whilst we are still to secure a permanent spot we can confirm that we will be there every Saturday until the end of October 2010 at least. You can find us opposite the Salamanca Food Market in the middle isle.

Great news for those locals looking to recycle, we plan to set up a bulk refill option. So bring along your empty containers and save not only more plastic entering the environment but money as well.

What a great opportunity for us to meet with our customers and discuss our products, our business and environmental issues on a one on one basis. It also gives people the opportunity to see, smell and learn about our products before purchasing.

Salamanca market will provide a fantastic platform for us to educate the public on the importance of making responsible purchasing choices, how to read labels and how to recognise “green washing” that is so prevalent in our society today.

When Clean Conscience was first founded the focus was on providing safe cleaning products that did not make me gag or break into a rash. I also wanted a product that did not pollute the planet and wanted to use ingredients that had been around for centuries, therefore eliminating the need for animal testing.

It was whilst conducting some research on soap powder that I came across some disturbing articles regarding palm oil. It was with horror that I discovered the palm oil we were using in our products was contributing to massive environmental damage and the impending extinction of orangutangs and other species. 

I instantly made the decision to remove all palm oil from our products. After researching "sustainable palm oil" as an alternative I came to the conclusion that "sustainable palm oil" was a myth, a smoke screen for large companies to pretend they are doing the right thing!!!  

Some of our products made the transition quiet easily to palm oil free but in the end we had to remove two of our most popular products from the market (dishwashing liquid and auto dishwashing powder). This proved to be very unpopular with most of our customers and we did take a bit of flack but at the end of the day you have to ask yourself the question: Is it worth wiping out an entire species, contributing to green house gases, supporting illegal pet trade, abusing human rights and contributing to many other atrocities just for the sake of a few clean dishes????  I DO go to sleep at night with a Clean Conscience!!
